The Classical Art Research Centre is a unit of the University of Oxford. The University’s legal notice
at www.ox.ac.uk/copyright applies to this website, except where otherwise stated.
We are happy for you to use the images on this website and its databases for the purposes of non-commercial research, teaching and private study, provided that they fall under CARC's copyright. They may not be used for other purposes without specific permission.
Please note, however, that CARC is not the copyright-owner for many of the images on this site and the databases, including the majority of images in the Beazley Archive Pottery Database. For this reason, many of our images are protected by watermarks and any permission to reproduce them needs to be requested from the relevant body. In many cases this may be the museum for which the photograph was originally taken.
Please feel free to contact us for further information on copyright, but please note that CARC is not normally able to respond to individual requests for photographs or digital images.
Images on our webpages are mostly copyright CARC but may be from other sources. We are very grateful to the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the J. Paul Getty Museum, and the Cleveland Museum for some of the very high-resolution images of Athenian pottery and Gandharan works of art (slider and section images), which are available under a Creative Commons Zero or similar licences through those museums' open access policies. Many of the Metropolitan Museum's open access images have also been incorporated in the relevant records of the Beazley Archive Pottery Database.
Requests for images of objects in the Ashmolean Museum (including images of pottery and plaster casts) should be addressed to the Museum's image library.
