The inscription on the base reads:
You will recognise the fine statue by Alkamenes, the Hermes Before-the-Gates. Pergamios gave it.

• Plaster cast: Height: 97cm.
• Copy of a marble herm.
• The herm:
  • is a version of Alkamenes' original Hermes Propylaios (Hermes Before-the-Gates) which was set up on the Athens Acropolis in about 430 BC.
  • was found at Pergamon in 1903.
  • is now in Istanbul, Archaeological Museum, 527.
