Sir John Beazley (1885-1970) was Professor of Classical Archaeology and Art in the University from 1925-1956. A world authority on Greek Art, he established the study of Athenian figure-decorated pottery as a branch of fine art. His scholarship now forms the basis for the Beazley Archive Pottery Database.
