Mid- 5th century BC sculptor from Eleutherae in southern Greece. He worked mainly in bronze and was one of the first sculptors to experiment with movement and the depiction of emotion. He is famous for his Diskobolos (Discus-thrower) and Athena and Marsyas, which no longer survive but are known to us through copies. A Herakles type is also attributed to him, and he was said to have made a very lifelike cow for dedication on Athens Acropolis.
