In mythology King of Sparta, brother of Agamemnon and husband of Helen, whom he pursues to Troy. His duel there with Hektor is shown in art, and, at the Sack, his confrontation with Helen, whom he spares from killing at the sight of her beauty, dropping his drawn sword.
