Idas

The Archaic Period</I> Fig 208.2Legendary son of Aphareus, king of Messenia, brother of Lynkeus (the pair are called Apharetidai). They are rivals of the Dioskouroi - for their brides (the Leukippidai), in archery and cattle-stealing. They took part in the Argonaut expedition and the Calydonian Boar Hunt. Idas fights with Apollo who coveted his bride, Marpessa.
