London, British Museum E466The Greek sun-god, shown as a young man in a chariot. He may have a disk, wings, or rays, emerging from his head. There was a colossal bronze statue of him at Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. Helios and Selene (the Moon) often frame classical myth scenes to give an indication of the passage of time. He is challenged by Herakles on the hero's journey to the west, to fight Geryon.
