Kastor and Polydeukes (Roman Castor and Pollux), hero sons of Zeus and worshipped throughout Greece, but especially in Sparta, as saviours and protectors of travellers. They rescued their sister Helen from Theseus; themselves raped the daughters of Leucippus (Leukippos]; and joined the expedition of the Argonauts. They are commonly shown with horses, wearing pointed caps (piloi) with stars over them.
