Cretan Bull

Detail from an Athenian black-figure clay vase, about 510 BC. Paris, Musée du Louvre F240.Herakles' seventh Labour was to bring to Argos a wild bull from Crete, said to be the same bull as the one in the myths about Europa and Pasiphae. He caught the beast alive, and showed it to Eurystheus before letting it go. After wandering about for some time the bull finally took up quarters in Marathon, where it was fought by the hero Theseus.
