A monster fought and killed by Bellerophon mounted on the winged horse Pegasos. It was thought to live in Lycia, south west Anatolia (Turkey). In its usual form it has the body of a lion, its tail (or in early art, hindquarters) in the shape of a serpent, and a fire-breathing head and neck of a goat emerging from its back.
