In mythology, the mother of Theseus, who brought him up at Troizen. When the Dioskouroi rescue their sister Helen from Theseus they carry off Aithra, to serve her at Sparta. She is then taken by Paris with Helen to Troy where, at the sack, she is recognized and rescued by her grandsons, Demophon and Akamas.
