Bronze Age citadel in S. Greece. Excavated by Schliemann who identified (wrongly) the `beehive' tombs of Homeric legendary heroes and kings (Atreus, Agamemnon, Klytaimnestra and others). In the archaic and classical periods it was dominated by nearby Argos. Shown here is the Lion Gate with view through to the citadel.
