A Greek sculptor active about 370-315 BC. He introduced a new concept of the figure for classical art, working more closely from life and weakening the idealizing styles of the 5th century. His athlete scraping himself (apoxyomenos) is known from copies. He was very prolific and many copies of other works by him are identified. Alexander the Great was said to have allowed only him to make his sculptural portraits.
