Lebetes

Drw'g of lebes shapes

Lebes (or dinos): round bodied mixing vessel which was normally placed on a stand. It is known in painted pottery from the middle of the seventh century, but is common only in the Wild Goat style of East Greece.

The lebes gamikos (or nuptial lebes) was used for the bridal bath, and is often decorated with pictures of wedding preparations and celebrations. It has two handles, a rounded body, a distinct neck, and a simple attached stand or a short foot.
